Morihei UeshibaWe are a group practicing Aikido together in Charlottesville Virginia.

Aikido is a non-violent martial art, developed in the mid 20th century by Japanese martial artist Morihei Ueshiba Sensei. The word Aikido translates as “the way of harmonizing energy.”

Aikido practice promotes wellness for the body, mind, and spirit. We strive for the peaceful resolution of conflict and to live in harmony with others. We practice flexibility, confidence and calmness under pressure – always with the spirit of joy in a non-competitive atmosphere that is supportive and fun.

Mususbi (結び) means joining, connection, tying together. In the context of Aikido, musubi refers to the connection between partners – a harmonious unification that transcends self and other. The concept of musubi is especially meaningful to us as our teachers come from multiple aikido lineages. We honor each individual’s distinct background and individual style, bringing us together to co-create a practice that is both affirming and healing.

Children & adults of any level of experience or bodily ability are welcome!
